International Open: Raymond van Barneveld beats Jonny Clayton to join Luke Humphries and Stephen Bunting in last 16

Raymond van Barneveld booked his place in the last 16 of the International Open with a 6-2 victory against Jonny Clayton.

Van Barneveld made a confident start to the second-round match at Sachsen Arena in Riesa, Germany, to take a 3-0 advantage over Wales’ Clayton – and never looked back.

The 57-year-old Dutchman, ranked 35th in the PDC order of merit, averaged 97.2 while a below-par Clayton managed just 81.4.

Van Barneveld’s compatriot Wessel Nijman also pulled off a minor upset when he knocked out Chris Dobey 6-3.

Elsewhere, world number one Luke Humphries reeled off six consecutive legs as he cruised into the third round with a 6-1 win over Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Englishman Stephen Bunting found it slightly tougher during a gritty 6-4 win over Darius Labanauskas of Lithuania.

Welshman Gerwyn Price clinched a 6-4 victory against Mike de Decker, Cameron Menzies edged out James Wade 6-5, and Peter Wright won by the same margin against Ritchie Edhouse.

Rob Cross has pulled out of the tournament because of illness so Germany’s Martin Schindler was given a bye to the next round.

The third round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played on Sunday.
