Northern Ireland’s William Creighton got his bid to win the British Rally Championship title off to a perfect start with victory at the East Riding Stages.
The win in Yorkshire was a first overall win in the BRC for Creighton, who finished runner-up in the championship behind winner Chris Ingram in 2024.
Creighton, a former Junior BRC and Junior WRC champion, and co-driver Liam Regan switched to a Toyota GR Yaris for their title bid and won seven out of the 10 tarmac stages.
The Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy driver, 27, finished 23.8 seconds ahead of Irish crew Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin, while James Williams and Ross Whittock were third.
“It’s our first rally in the car and we hadn’t done so much [in the Yaris] before the event and with such tricky conditions today, it’s just felt good,” Creighton told the BRC.
“I’m really excited for what’s to come. A huge thanks to Liam for doing a great job on the notes and keeping me on the straight and narrow. I’m just really, really happy.”
In the Junior BRC, there was a podium lock-out for Motorsport Ireland Rally crews as Kyle McBride claimed victory.
McBride and co-driver Darragh Mullen finished 10.6 seconds ahead of Craig Rahill and Conor Smith, while Keelan Grogan and Aytron Sherlock completed the rostrum.
The second round of the season is the Carlisle Stages on 12 April.
