In an exciting match at the Showgrounds, Success Edogun had a great chance to open the scoring for the hosts with just five minutes on the clock after latching on to a Calvin McCurry cross but Glentoran goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai reacted brilliantly to save his point blank effort.
The visitors grew into the game and Jonathan Russell and Joe Thomson both blazed wide of the goal before Jordan Jenkins came closest to breaking the deadlock just after the half hour.
Glentoran’s leading scorer this term was quickest to react to a loose ball inside the Ballymena United penalty area but his low right foot shot was diverted on to the post by a full length diving save to his right from home ‘keeper Sean O’Neill.
Cammy Palmer might have done better shortly after the restart when he failed to find the target when well placed but the away side didn’t have long to wait for the breakthrough.
The Glens hit the front just before the hour mark with a fine finish from Pattisson, capitalising on a long ball from Danny Amos and a defensive error from Daithi McCallion to slot the ball past a helpless O’Neill from 12 yards.
The hosts came agonisingly close to levelling with five minutes remaining when first ‘keeper Gyollai and then Jenkins denied substitute Moore a dramatic equaliser.
But they weren’t to be denied for long and Moore was in the right place at the right time deep into added time to block an attempted clearance and somehow force the ball over the line.
Glentoran almost regained the advantage moments later but they were unable to find a way past an inspired Sean O’Neill, who produced a tremendous save.
