British snowboarder Mia Brookes had to settle for bronze in the slopestyle competition at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado.
The 18-year-old won gold 12 months ago but was unable to defend her title as Zoi Sadowski-Synnott of New Zealand finished in the top spot.
Sadowski-Synnott, 23, took gold with a score of 94.66 in her first run in the final, which included a stunning triple cork.
“To win this competition, I cannot believe it. We had epic conditions and I’m stoked to win gold,” said Sadowski-Synnott.
Brookes’ first-run score of 88.33 had looked enough for a silver medal, but Japan’s Kokomo Murase, 20, nipped in ahead of her after posting 90.33 on her second run.
Brookes, the youngest competitor in the field for the second year running, was unable to better her score in the final run after tumbling when attempting to land a back 1260.
