Meat Slicers and Their History for Healthy Food Preparation

Meat Slicers are part of American food preparation. The product dates back to the nineteenth century. The first American slicer for meat came as early as 1909. They were at one time, an integral part of American manufacturing of food preparation products. The development occurred to slice more meat more quickly in delicatessens and butcher shops. As the twentieth century progressed, Meat Slicers became part of kitchens in the United States. With minimal advertising, the products showed value for slicing meats for snacks and meals. Soon after the second world war, meat slicer use became part of healthy lunches for students as well as for those taking lunches to work in bags and lunch boxes.

As meat consumption increased, so did the use of products to prepare meat for meals such as lunches and dinners. Meat Slicers and their use helped families and their competition to provide for families become a more important food preparation product to cut and slice meats just like you purchase at the delicatessens and butcher shops around. Everyone was now capable of doing this with simple hand cranking motions.

Once the electric motors became common in small kitchen appliances, their addition to meat slicing products added a modern convenience to families around the country. Mothers and wives could more easily prepare lunches for husbands and children. As the stresses of the twentieth grew, so did the necessity to complete tasks more quickly and efficiently. Meat slicers became more and more common as the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s progressed. What was once part of a ‘status item,’ meat slicers were another small kitchen appliance ‘every house-hold must have.’ Motors became available in every product line. Details for products became the main focus of marketing. Detail for products such as:

All of the above pushed the advertising and marketing of meat slicers throughout the twentieth century. People continued to look for ease in food preparation. Meat slicers provided ease along with speed for providing high quality slices of meat and other foods. They transformed into Food Slicers to show versatility. After established versatility, food slicers evolved toward being an appliance capable of preparing healthy foods in a healthier way. This appealed to more people along with opening a new market segment in the later part of the twentieth century.

Healthy Food Preparation exploded in the 1990’s and continues today. Now, well into the second decade of the twenty-first century, more and more people look to improve their health. This health improvement comes from a desire to eat a healthier diet. A healthier diet becomes easier with healthy food preparation appliances.
